The Day After Valentine's Day . . .

Is just another day . . . or so you might think. Only it's not! Because it's the day Jaye Wells and I start back up at Babel Clash ! We'll be snarking and pontificating for two whole weeks, people! It's madness! So to inaugurate what will be a fortnight of Jaye and I twisting everything you once held sacred, and in honor of Valentine's day yesterday, I thought I'd give you one of my favorite twisted love songs: It's the Bravery with Hatefuck. Ohhhhhhh yeah . . . And if you're like, "Who the hell are you, Nicole Peeler? No one's been blogging on this site for so long, I don't even remember any of you bitches," fear not! You can find out who I am here . And next month, over at my publisher's , you can download my first book, Tempest Rising , for only $2.99. I'll post updates on my website, but my very own Orbital Drop should start March 1st. Let me and my publishers know what you think of this idea. Are you more like...

Bring it!

Kelly Meding and I need YOU! We're both up on Bitten By Book's new November poll about which new releases you're most looking forward to! And we're getting STOMPED by Kenyon and MacAlister! Realistically we will continue to be stomped (as even I voted for MacAlister), but you can help us LOSE WITH DIGNITY! There's also a new interview/contest with me and TR up here . :-) Thanks! And don't forget that my own selkie hunt contest is still very much alive! Send in those photos to win!

This Time I'm REALLY Talking About Sex

So everyone keeps talking about the five-minute sex scene, replete with blue wang, in Watchmen.  Keeping in mind that I have a refrigerator magnet that declares, “I Heart Porn,” (it is helping my Xena magnet hold up a wedding invite at the moment), this has done nothing to decrease my desire to see the film. In the meantime, a lot of people brought up the fact that UF tends to be sexy in their comments to my post about what IS urban fantasy.  My own editor, gods bless her, called my series, “Horny.”  She wasn’t referring to my Satyr, although Caleb does sport very large horns, indeed. I’ve also made mention of my lovely student and VOXer, Kayla Beck, who, when I told her I wrote UF, said, “Is that hor-mance, like Anita Blake?”  I nearly cried laughing.  It was the perfect appellation.  I told her to stick comic before horror and romance, and you had my book in a nutshell, sistah.   Not all UF, of course, has the sexysexy.  That said, I gotta admit I like my UF with sex.  I’m sorr...

TEMPEST RISING COVER

Image
I'm so excited to reveal to the League the AMAZING cover for Tempest Rising.  I can't tell you HOW pleased with it I am.  It's perfect for my book and it's everything I could have wanted. For more information on how this cover came to be, go to: http://www.orbitbooks.net/2009/02/23/cover-launch-tempest-rising/#more-1606 Thanks so much to Sharon Tancredi, an incredible artist who took the time to get to know Jane.  It shows in every detail of this cover.  And thanks to the whole team at Orbit, for everything they do, and especially to Lauren Panepinto, Creative Director, who got me, got the book, and took a delightful risk.

And now for something completely expected

I told you guys I was going to talk about “the process,” and that’s exactly what I’m going to do for the next few weeks.  If there’s anything specific you’d like me to talk about, ask in a comment, or in my personal forum, or in a message to me. I’m going to alternate Talking About Myself (one of my favorite activities) with Talking About Other People.  I have interviewed three writers who are all at different stages of the process.  First, we’ll have Gretchen McNeil, who just fought off FOUR (count ‘em, FOUR) agents to find a match made in heaven.  Next, we have Jen Hayley, who is at the revisions stage with her own agent.  Finally, we have Cindy Pon, whose YA Fantasy, Silver Phoenix, will be available April 28, 2009.  These are all women you’ll being seeing a lot of, soon, so here’s your chance to get to know ‘em. But first I’m going to talk about myself.  Mmmmm.  Myself.  I wrote Tempest Rising, on a whim, after I’d completed my doctorate.  I was living in Edinburgh, Scotland, a...

Let’s talk about SEX!

Okay, no, I don’t want to talk about sex at all.  I want to talk about covers.  But I got your attention, didn’t I? And that’s the whole point of a cover.  See the nice segue-way, there?  I don’t just randomly yell the word sex.  SEX!!!! My cover is, as I write this, being carefully crafted by the AMAZING artist Sharon Tancredi: http://www.sharontancredi.com / I have seen the sketches, and I am over the moon with her, her aesthetic, and her ideas for Tempest.  She is also an insanely nice woman who took the time to read my manuscript AND email me about it.  So I feel I am in very good hands. A lot of people have asked me about this part of the process.  It seems, in many ways, the part everyone is most interested in.  They’ve wanted to know how much input I’ve had, etc.  My experience has been unique, I think, in that the Orbit team just does everything right.  I think I’ve had quite a bit of input on the cover, to a certain extent, but I’ve mostly spent that time shouting, “...

Introducing Moi . . .

Hello everyone! I know you’re all thinking, who the hell are you?  I wonder that all the time.  Or at least when I’ve been hitting the whisky too hard at the Noble Savage.  ANYWAY.  I am a writer, I swear.  I just don’t have much, yet.  No pretty covers, no website, no book . . . but I do have a DEAL!   http://www.orbitbooks.net/2008/11/03/deals-and-deliveries-nicole-peeler/ My first novel, Tempest Rising , will be coming out in Nov. 09 (she says, with great confidence) and I’ve just submitted my second novel, Tracking the Tempest , to my fabulous editor, Devi.  Who is also Jaye’s fabulous editor.  We may wrestle over her, later.  Stay tuned. So I’m new to this whole “writing” gig.  I just turned my hand to it starting last April.  Basically, I know nothing.  I’m flying by the well-worn seat of my yoga pants.  I am in a constant state of either euphoria or acid reflux, depending on the level/nature of the news I have just gotten from my various people.  For I now have a bit of ...
