(Still Another) New Member Intro

Okay—I think I’m finally ready to dive in to this (cess)pool of demented humanity. I realize I have a lot to learn about how this stuff works—for instance, I didn’t know the forum was running a discussion about how Jackie and I are the nicest people in UF—well, that’s true. But there are some devious individuals who shall remain nameless (but whose initials are Derek or Lord Ruthven) that think they are going to stir up a fight between us.

Oh, you have no idea who you’re messing with…. But we’ll take this up in person at Dragon*Con, won’t we? Be warned.

Anyway, back to the intro—I’m Jeanne Stein. Besides being the nicest person in UF, I’m the author of the Anna Strong Chronicles. I love anything UF, Joss Whedon, Vampire. I share a blog with Mario Acevedo here. We post twice a week-- Mario posts on Monday, I post on Wednesday. Mario will pop in with an intro himself but right now he’s in revision mode so he barely has time to breathe, let alone post. And if you know Mario, you know he NEEDS his rewrite time.

Anyway, for those of you who would like to get to know my stuff, I’m running a contest. Submit a comment between now and midnight Feb. 13th and you’ll be in the running for all this loot:

If you have any questions you’d like to ask me, don’t hesitate. I have no secrets. Nice people tend to be incredibly boring. Here’s a pic taken last week at a talk I gave at a San Diego JC—My hair is different, as usual. I change styles and colors at will. You’d think someone who has been on the planet as long as I have would know how to wear her hair. I’m still experimenting.

So, is there anything else I should tell you? I’m looking forward to being a part of this group. Mario says I need to loosen up. If being around Mark and Anton and Mario and Dakota doesn’t do it, I’m afraid I’m a lost cause. Which reminds me—starting next week, Saturday, I’m going to run a feature spotlighting two or three of our illustrious members who will share pics of their writers’ rooms. If you’re like me, I’m always curious (read nosy) to see where the magic happens.

It’s probably been mentioned already, but we Leaguers are taking over the Club RT room on Thursday, April 24th at 10:30. We have great give-away’s planned. So if you’re attending RT this year, be sure to put that on your calendar. Will all be providing more details later.

See you on Saturday.

Jeannie,

As you know I have already read all of your books but I'm glad to see your part of this group. I am not with the majority of people in Paul's group because I don't want to mark any of you. I'm willing to share as long as I get first crack at the new stuff.

Hi, Jeanne!

I think I'm the only one who hasn't read all your books, eek! But hello, they sound great and I love the covers so I must!

I'm so sad I can't go to RT this year. Isn't it supposed to be at Orland or something? That's like 3 hours away! Maybe I can make it the 24th?? Who knows..

Although I work on Thursday..argh!

Loot is good: please sign me up for the drawing. I've read and enjoyed most of the authors on this blog. I'd love to add you to the list.

I've heard good things about the books, but haven't picked them up yet, so winning would be a nice way to check them out.

Hi Jeanne~

Welcome! I really wish I was going to RT this year...or any year for that matter...but it sounds like you have lots of fun planned!

Do you have any upcoming events or signings in the Colorado area...for some reason, I thought that you were from the Colorado area? Am I even close?
Daelith said…
Great to have you join us.

Word of advice though...don't let loosen up too much around Mark that you let your guard down. You might end up in his basement zombie collection.

Hello Jeanne -

I'm new here and love your idea of sharing pics of where the writing magic happens. I'll look forward to seeing those pics.

Between all of the authors on this blog and the authors over at the Deadline Dames, I'll have fantastic (in both senses of the word!) reading fodder for a very long time. Hurrah!

I too am inquitive (read: snoopy) about writers' rooms. While it's nice to see where the magic happens, it would be satisfying to know if other people are just as grotty as me!

Sign me up! I love your stuff, and if I can get it free, that just means I can pass along the ones I already bought to needy friends :-)

Thanks for celebrating your arrival with us! I would love to include your books as part of my late night reading.
I don't have any secrets either. It takes up too much time and effort to keep stuff like that hidden. And anyway, I prefer that people get to know the REAL me.

Welcome. Look forward to your posts. I change colors and hairstyles at will too, there is no reason to be predictable and always show up looking the same way!

Hello Jeanne,

My name is Toni, but in Fantasy Land I'm know as Silky. I love a good book or 4, and great books are even better. I hear yours are great! Please sign me up for the drawing. I also am a Reluctant Adult, hence the alternet identity, and not just an internet alternet either, I use it when I go to the Renaissance Faire in the summer.

Take care, and welcome.

I just discovered Anna last week as part of a reading challenge to discover new authors. I'm hooked! I loved the different take on her becoming a vampire and everything she had to deal with initially. I can't wait to see how the story progresses, so I'm definitely up for the contest!

Wow-- great response. Thanks for all the "welcomes"-- I may just have to give away more than one set if this keeps up!

To those who have already tried Anna, I say thank you-- to those who have yet to try the books, I know time and money are often factors. I plan to give away something every week I post so stay tuned!!

I'm also really looking forward to your feature. It's fun to see the places where people spend all of their writing hours. :)

I think the color I have now--kind of reddish brown. I was a blonde for most of my life, As I get older, though, I sometimes think I need more color!! But I'll NEVER be gray...NEVER--thanks to a little help from L'Oreal...

Hi Jeanne!
I have a copy of The Becoming that was published by ImaJinn Books and love it! Is there any difference in the book that was published by ImaJinn Books and the one published by Ace Books? The covers on your books published by Ace Books are absolutely gorgeous!

Also, is there any chance your next book, Retribution, will be released before September 2009?

Thanks for offering all the great loot for your contest. Someone is going to be very happy! :)

Not too much in The Becoming. ImaJinn also put out a Blood Drive that pops up now and then and there ARE differences in that edition. My editor at ImaJinn didn't really do much editing and unfortunately, some stuff got left in that shouldn't have been.

In fact, that's the main difference I see in being pub'd by a big and small house-- I actually have an editor that edits at Ace.

Love the series. Honestly though, Anna's decision making skills are questionable at times! It makes for enjoyable and occassionally tense reading. Can't wait for the next one.

And welcome to the League. I'll assume you know what you've gotten yourself into...

Okay friends-- the contest is officially closed. I'll post winners this afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who participated and special thanks to all who have already tried the Anna Strong Chronicles. It means a lot.

PS Qwill said: Honestly though, Anna's decision making skills are questionable at times!

Leaves room for growth--hopefully, you have and will see it as the series progresses.
